WIGMORE VALLEY SKATEPARK

COMING SOON

After seven years of planning and preparation, work is to start on the new skatepark in Wigmore, Luton.

Local skaters campaigned for the fresh concrete facility to replace the existing metal ramps which are rusted and no longer fit for purpose, forcing them to travel to parks further away.

The new Skatepark has been designed by specialist skatepark company Maverick Industries. At the heart of the facility is a smooth skate plaza, flanked by a snake run with rollovers, clamshell corners, and a miniramp.

Russ Holbert, director of Maverick Industries, said: “The new Wigmore Skatepark offers riders a huge upgrade, with features designed to both nurture beginners and challenge the more experienced.

“Each individual zone, from the plaza area to the miniramp to the pumptrack snake run, link seamlessly one into the other to maximise the flow and functionality. This is one fun park, and we are looking forward to handing it over to the locals and seeing their skills and creativity grow!”

Maverick will craft the park from spray concrete for the smooth surface it provides wheeled sports, and its durability in the face of the UK climate, it requires very little maintenance. The park will blend with the green space through bunding and natural planting.

Russ said: “By utilising reinforced spray concrete, our crew can create organic and natural shapes, which complement the surrounding landscape.

“In our view, this facility is a beautiful addition to the existing parkland setting, brightening up the flat space while providing a stunning skateable piece of architecture.”

Funded by Luton Rising, the new Wigmore skatepark will serve as a community facility first but will also appeal to riders both nationally and internationally and should last Luton residents for decades.
