We're working with Poole Communities Trust and BCP Council to create a new Skatepark for Turlin Moor in Poole.
THE SITE
The proposed site is located within an old tarmac car park, off Turlin Road.
The proposed design sits within the treeline and a suitable distance from local residents. We plan to incorporate grass bunding around the perimeter of the skatepark that will rise and fall with the slopes in the facility improving the aesthetic and removing the need for handrails. We have designed a buildup style facility, taking account of access, the topography of the site and the geotechnical parameters.
THE DESIGN
The facility is thoughtfully divided into three distinct zones: The Miniramp/Snake Run, The Driveway/Stairset, and The Spine Roller. Each route within the skatepark is strategically designed to connect when the park is quiet, allowing for fluid transitions across the entire facility. Conversely, during busier times, these zones can function independently, subtly segregating the space to enable a larger number of users to enjoy the park simultaneously and safely.
This design maintains a high level of features, flowlines, and rolling space, ensuring that both beginners and advanced riders find challenges that suit their skills. The facility is intended to provide opportunities for technical tricks and continuous progression, making it engaging and stimulating for local riders over time. This concept delivers a hybrid-style skatepark with a balanced mix of transition and street elements, designed to remain exciting and challenging for years to come.
Due to drainage challenges on the site, we sadly won't be able to include an enclosed bowl in the skatepark design.
THE MINIRAMP/SNAKE RUN
The miniramp serves as the foundation of the skatepark, echoing the success of many renowned parks. This Maverick mini snake run is perfect for executing long grinds and technical tricks, linking both ends of the facility. The mini features two hips and a small volcano platform that connects it to the driveway. One end of the mini is bowled out for a return run, blending seamlessly into the driveway to facilitate transfers between different zones. The length of the mini evokes a retro snake run feel, allowing riders to generate speed along the pipe section and launch off the hip into the spine roller. Miniramps and bowls, highly requested by young riders, form an essential part of this design, ensuring its popularity and usability.
THE DRIVEWAY/STAIRSET
Along the Southern perimeter of the facility lies a super-stretched driveway. As riders enter the facility from the East, they are greeted by an eye-catching stairset that doubles as an entry and exit point. This fun-sized stairset is ideal for a variety of street-style tricks down the drop, curving neatly into the transitions. A low-level retaining wall extends from the rear of the quarters to manage the levels within the space. Running North to South, the driveway features twin ledges and a rail, with the volcano platform acting as a divider between the street and transition areas. This platform also offers fun transfers in and out of the flats. At the southern end of the facility, a large quarter extension and hip connect all the riding lines, providing the necessary speed for return runs.
THE SPINE ROLLER
The quarter extension transitions into a fun hip, connecting with the spine roller ramp. The spine roller includes a 360-degree volcano and rollover transition, maintaining the flowlines throughout the space. This mini spine feature is designed for back-and-forth sessions over the opposing quarters, offering a technically challenging element that opens up endless possibilities for tricks. The 360-degree volcano connects with the driveway's toe, allowing riders to redirect their riding line seamlessly.
