TOTNES CROWDFUNDER IS LIVE

The legends over in the Totnes skate community have been putting the grind in to get a new concrete skatepark in the ground.

Whether you’ve got a few quid to throw into the crowdfunder or could just share the video so we can spread the word far and wide, everyone involved would be so grateful.

Together we can create something awesome for Totnes.

TOTNES SKATEPARK DESIGN

The facility comprises two main areas; The Street Facility and Flowbowl.  All routes around the skatepark are designed to link up when the facility is quiet, conversely, they can be used as separate, independent areas when the park is busy.  Subtly segregating the space into different zones will enable larger numbers of people to use the space at the same time, safely.

This facility has not been diluted in terms of features, flowlines and rolling space.  Both spaces will provide challenges for riders who are keen to attempt more technically difficult tricks on the elements within the design.  In our experience, local riders will quickly progress to a level where they can enjoy the whole space.  We would not recommend designing a facility that runs the risk of becoming dull or unchallenging over time.

THE STREET AREA

The ideas put forward by local riders have inspired us to create street and bowl facility that maximises the available space.  The street area encircles a centralised bowl and drops away into the flats, following the contours of the slope.  This has enabled us to provide riders with a endless 360 degree run around the back of the bowl, flowing into either side of the street area.

The street course has been split into two main sections; a split-level space, featuring a variety of ledges, a rail and a technical low-level curb.  The Eastern side of the facility features a stairset with hubba and downrail.

The ledges are set over two levels to present riders with a comprehensive range of grinding options and challenges. The back-to-back low-level flatbanks encourage riders to attempt a number of different streetstyle tricks in a run.  The iconic 'Pier 7' block spans the level change, encouraging riders to attempt manuals/technical tricks utilising the drop. The rail on the higher level can be sessioned both up and down, regardless of whether you ride goofy or regular.  These features are set into flatbanks which ensure flow is maintained throughout the space.

The street course meets in the middle of the facility with palm tree style planter.  This planter is bordered by twin hubba ledges dropping down the bank.  The circular top edge of the planter forms the platform of the bowl.  The hubba on the Eastern edge forms one side of a 4 stair set.  This stair set also features a downrail and provides a challenging obstacle for more experienced riders.  The stair set/street spot is perfect for photos and mini comps.  We have designed a bank along the perimeter of the facility to continue to promote the flow.

THE FLOWBOWL

At the heart of this facility is the 'Retro Flowbowl'.  This bowl features 2 mini pockets that drop down into circular deep-end through a waterfall.  The pockets connect with the deep via 2 hips, this provides a challenging transfer section for aerial manoeuvres.  The bowl has been designed to allow riders to generate speed through a 'triple 8' flowline and perform long grinds and carves in the deep.  The deep-end of the bowl is perfect for airs and high-end lip tricks.  This is a unique style bowl that would put Totnes facility on the Skate Map, encouraging travelling riders to come and visit.  This style of bowl would also importantly encourage older riders into the space.  Older skateboarders can perform an important role in helping to self-police a site, look out for the younger users and minimise any anti-social behaviour.

FLOWLINES

Speed for the street features is generated by transitional elements at various points around the perimeter of the facility.  The streetstyle quarterpipe, the roller, taco and the large hip all help riders to generate speed and flow throughout the space.  Flow is crucial within a skatepark and enables riders to generate speed for tricks or just roll throughout the space.
