THE SITE

The proposed location for this project is within the Recreation Area off Meek Road.  The proposed facility will be built within the grassland site, following the contours of the ground and connecting to the existing footpath.  The space features a treeline/footpath to the East and MUGA to the North.  We have opted for a predominantly build up approach to this project to ensure a deliverable concept idea.

CONCEPT DESIGN

The exciting facility comprises two main areas; The Tiered Street Area and Mini Flowbowl.  All routes around the skatepark are designed to link up when the facility is quiet, conversely, they can be used as separate, independent areas when the park is busy.  Subtly segregating the space into different zones will enable larger numbers of people to use the facility at the same time, safely.

This design idea has not been diluted in terms of features, flowlines and rolling space.  Both areas will provide challenges for riders who are keen to attempt more technically difficult tricks on the elements within the design.  In our experience, local riders will quickly progress to a level where they can enjoy the whole space.  We would not recommend designing a facility that runs the risk of becoming dull or unchallenging over time.

THE STREET AREA

The street area rises out of the ground at the top end of the facility and features a two-way hubba and rail.  These features work with the flatbank drop so that riders can grind them, up or down.  They can be used in both directions, whether you are 'Goofy' or 'Regular'.  The hubba features overhanging steels to create a stylised, superfunctional element.  Riders can session the street area back and forth with two quarterpipes at either end for speed generation.  The features have space either side so riders have the option of rolling past, if they choose.  These features can be considered as highly technical elements depending on your ability and can be used to perform a multitude of streetstyle tricks.  Alternatively they are perfect for all of the basic maneuvers.

THE FLOWBOWL

At the other end of this facility is the 'Mini Flowbowl'.  This bowl features 3 corner/pockets that allow riders to carve/flow around the bowl, with the addition of a hipped jumpbox leading in and out of the space.  The opposing side of the bowl features a striking corner extension that enables riders to perform challenging grinds and technical tricks.  This extension provides the necessary speed for the raised street section.

This bowl has been designed to allow riders to generate speed for big airs and long grinds.  The opposing coping sections provide the perfect minramp, ideal for all manner of technical lip tricks!  Miniramps are much loved and feature in the most successful facilities around the UK.

One of the best lines in the facility is carving the corners in the bowl and using this speed to session the jumpbox.  The jumpbox features a perfect hip that allows riders to approach the box from different angles and perform aerials/transfers over the gap.  The banked landing area on the box provides a long and forgiving slope and reduces the opportunity for hang-ups.  The high quarter return enables riders to soak up speed from tricks over the bow and create momentum for a return run.  This is a super fun area of the facility that links seamlessly into the street area.
