We are working with Reading Borough Council to design and build a new Skatepark on John Rabson’s Rec. We are asking local riders to help shape the designs by completing this short survey on what’s important to you in a skatepark.

We hope you like our conceptual ideas. Please feel free to answer the questions below and provide some feedback on the design.

THE SITE

The proposed space is an open, safe, grassfield location next to the Leisure Centre, working with all the available space on the site, kepping away from the Football pitch.

CONCEPT DESIGN

The facility comprises three main zones; The Bowled Miniramp, The Split-Level Street Area. All routes around the skatepark are designed to link up when the facility is quiet, conversely, they can be used as separate, independent areas when the park is busy.  Subtly segregating the space into different zones will enable larger numbers of people to use the space at the same time, safely.

THE SPLIT-LEVEL STREET AREA

Riders entering the facility from the carpark will come in via the lower-level Street Area.  This space features an inline hip, driveway and bank-to-curb.  There are quarter pipes and banks at each end of the park to enable riders to generate speed and flow for return runs.  The street area is designed over two levels to work with the topography of the site.  This has enabled us to design exciting features to work with the drop and a unique design style that encourages creativity and a personalised riding experience.  The inline hip enables riders to perform technical tricks over the apex of the bank and driveway allows for long grinds and boardslides up and down the slopes.  These features provide countless hours of fun for street riders.

The raised open area features a rail and grind ledge on flat.  The rail and ledge can be used in both directions, whether you ride, 'Goofy' or 'Regular'.  The ledge and rail are super-sized so riders can lock-in for long grinds with ample roll up/roll out space.

THE BOWLED MINIRAMP

The Northern end of the facility features a bowled miniramp.  The curves within this bowl have been designed to ensure that riders can achieve a fun figure-of-eight flowline.  The miniramp is one of the most desired features with a skatepark.  The opposing sections of coping allow for long grinds and lip tricks.  There are two differently designed hips leading in and out of the bowl, perfect for airs and transfers.  The bowl is cleverly integrated into the split-level street area contributing to a diverse and versatile design.  We have included a flowline diagram to illustrate the numerous, potential lines available.
