NOW OPEN!

A landmark project for Maverick on Hove Seafront.

This meticulously crafted street plaza, a five-year labour of love, is now a reality.

A huge shoutout to everyone who made this park possible:
The council, the project steering group, numerous contractors, and a vibrant community.

Hove is officially on the map đź“Ť

““It’s amazing to see the buzz this has created. There were hundreds and hundreds of people all out enjoying themselves in the first weekend, all different ages.””

Liam Teague

Part of the group consulted on the new skatepark

““I don’t think I have ever seen a council project that has been so praised. We have had emails and messages from people saying thank you so much, and this is wonderful. I don’t think we anticipated how well this space would be received from older and younger people. I think it is one of the most positive things we have done in a long time.

”As a skater myself, I share the excitement of the skating, skateboarding and BMX communities in the opening of these superb new facilities. We have worked with those communities to make sure we deliver what’s most important to them in the park, and the result looks great!””

The bespoke facility was designed by Maverick together with the local usergroup, led by Skatepark Development Officer Ricardo Magee Atxukarro and Liam Teague to create a park that reflects the needs of the local community.

Forming the heart of the design, a comprehensive mix of street features can be sessioned independently or hit up in a run and are accessible from every direction.

Our park designers were mindful to design the plaza so that the standing spaces don't interrupt the flow of the park while maintaining its street feel, with ample rolling space to enable younger less experienced riders to cruise around whilst staying out of the main run of the park.

Skatepark Company scoops top award for Hove Beach Plaza

Maverick Skateparks was awarded first place in the commercial photo category of the Golden Trowel Awards, hosted by The Concrete Society, for its use of decorative concrete in the bespoke skatepark installation. The Hove Beach Plaza is a landmark scheme for Maverick, and part of the council’s multi-million regeneration of Hove Lagoon seafront. Delivered by main contractor Morgan Sindall, the new sprawling sports complex also includes a new pump track and a 600 metre-squared roller rink, with landscaping by Untitled Practice.

John Grant, Awards organiser and specification manager at PICS Ltd, said: “The 2024 Golden Trowel Awards are a fantastic example of how concrete can be used in colourful and imaginative ways, none less than the introduction of vibrant colours within the winning entry of the commercial category.

“Maverick Industries has created a skatepark at Hove in Sussex where the use of geometric shapes and colours has made an artwork of the concrete form. They are worthy winners this year, again.”

The Awards judging panel, including Concrete Society staff, technical personnel, and experienced industry practitioners, assessed the Hove Beach Plaza project on the quality of the image, the technical difficulty of the installation and the design and layout of the project.

Maverick previously picked up a Golden Trowel Award in 2019 for its work for Newquay Town Council on the design and installation of the Concrete Waves skatepark project, one of more than 150 skateparks the company has constructed across the UK.

John said: “There is always a lively debate among the panel, who do not know which companies have submitted the images until after the decision has been made, and they usually go away more informed over the possibilities of using concrete rather than alternatives.”

Founded in 2005, the Awards showcase the range and scope of decorative concrete being installed across the UK, with the addition of an international entry available to highlight global installations.
